January 1: The Daily Star reports on its front page: "Sex Pistols lined up to tour again. Foul-mouthed punk legends the Sex Pistols are getting back together for an expected £10 million payout - 20 years after splitting up..."

February 3: The Melody Maker includes an article on the Sex Pistols history and the rumour of a reunion. The front page features a picture of Johnny Rotten backstage in Penzance.

March 2: An advert in the NME for European gigs and travel, lists the Sex Pistols show in Paris on 4th July, the first indication that the dates have been fixed, almost three weeks before any official announcements.

March 15: The Times reports "The Sex Pistols are threatening a comeback." A feature by David Sinclair concludes "The Sex Pistols may need the money, but the world does not need a Sex Pistols comeback." It quotes Malcolm McLaren: "They're being sent out like old dray horses before they go to pasture."

March 18: 100 Club, London. After approximately 5 years of rumours about a reunion (and an article in the French press alleging John Lydon, Steve Jones and Paul Cook played Sex Pistols songs together in 1994 in Hollywood.) the original members of the Sex Pistols hold a press conference to announce officially that the band has reformed and will go on tour this year. The event is filmed and parts are shown on TV channels worldwide. The band is interviewed by MTV journalist Tobi Amies and a photo session also takes place. The pictures of the band will be used in various articles in the press.

March 19: The Times reports: "Rotten fires up Pistols for one last blast."

The Sun announces: "Never Mind The Wrinkles....",

The Daily Star states: " Punk Crockers!"

March 24: The Sunday Times features the band in its Style magazine.

May 2: "Pistols rotten to each other" reports The Daily Star. The article continues: "The Sex Pistols may pull the plug on their comeback - because they can't stand each other."

May: Q magazine runs an article about the Punk Festival from September '76. German magazine Musikexpress includes an article about the reunion. The band is also on the front cover of the French magazine Best in which the whole press conference from March 18th is translated.

During these rehearsals the band is photographed. Some of the pictures will be later used in the "Filthy Lucre Live" CD booklet and in the worldwide press to promote gigs.

The band is booked to rehearse at The Forum, London for 3 days, but this is cancelled.

June 15: The band appears on the front page of the NME.

June 19: BBC Elstree Studios, Borehamwood. The band record Pretty Vacant and New York for Top Of The Pops (broadcast June 29).

June 20: The band fly to Helsinki.

June 20: BBC 1 interview with John Lydon and Glen Matlock is broadcast.

June 21: Messila Festival, Lahtis, Finland. The Sex Pistols perform their first show since 14th January 1978.

June 22 : Sex Pistols fly to Munich.

June 22: Helter Skelter Festival, Munchen (filmed). Bodies and Seventeen are filmed for a German TV report, which includes an interview with Steve Jones.

Radio Times dated 22 - 28 June has a small colour picture of the Pistols on the contents page and a feature in the magazine to tie in with the Radio 1 broadcast of the Finsbury Park show.

June 23: Sex Pistols fly back to London in the morning.

The News Of The World reports on the band's first reunion show in Finland: "Don't be so Rotten says punk. Punk wildmen the Sex Pistols have threatened to quit their reunion tour - unless the fans behave."

The Sex Pistols are back in London and the concert generates widespread coverage in the media. Support bands: 3 Colours Red, Fluffy, Stiff Little Fingers, 60FT Dolls, Buzzcocks, Skunk Anansie, The Wildhearts, & Iggy Pop.

The show is broadcast live (with a time delay) by the BBC, as well as being recorded by Virgin records for an album release. Audio recordings are available on the official "Filthy Lucre Live" CD and on the bootleg CDs "Fat Forty and Back" and "No More Heroes", both of which are taken from the radio broadcast.

Parts of Pretty Vacant and EMI are filmed by a TV crew along with a pre-gig interview. This will be used on various TV shows worldwide, including MTV Brazil, French channel Canal +, etc. A video of Pretty Vacant to accompany the forthcoming single is compiled from various footage shot throughout the evening. The whole show was not recorded professionally for release. The show is filmed from the crowd by a member of the audience.

June 24: The double CD set "This Is Crap" (aka "Never Mind The Bollocks / Spunk") is released on Virgin Records.

Widespread coverage of Finsbury Park gig in the UK press. The focus of much of the press centres on the fact that England footballer Stuart Pearce was at the show, and along with fellow England footballer Gareth Southgate, introduced the band on stage.
The Sun: "Never Mind The Footballers... it's the Sex Pistols."

Daily Star: "Stuff 'Em Rotten. Stu's Pistol power," referring to England's forthcoming game with Germany.

The Times have a colour picture of punks at Finsbury Park on their front page.

June 25: The Times run their review: "Happiness is a worn gun."

June 26: Naval Museum, Stockholm (recorded + filmed): Soundcheck: No Lip / Pretty Vacant / Submission (parts of No Lip and Pretty Vacant available on a bootleg video).

June 27: Broadcast of the Swedish TV report on the concert in Stockholm including the band's performance and interviews with fans.

June 28: Roskilde Festival, Denmark (recorded + filmed): Bodies / Seventeen / New York / No Feelings / Did You No Wrong.
This concert is total chaos. The band comes on stage and people in the crowd throw objects including broken bottles. After a few tracks, the Sex Pistols stop the concert and leave the stage.

Top Of The Pops broadcasts the specially recorded live performance.

The band don't appear to enjoy the gig, as the crowd are lethargic. After E.M.I. they leave the stage and don't come back. No encore is played.

News Of The World reports on the Roskilde Festival. "Pistols fans are Rotten! The Sex Pistols stormed off stage last night after frenzied fans threw bottles at them."

June: Q magazine includes an interview with the band and pictures taken on March 18th which are used for the "Fat Forty And Back" CD cover.

July 3: An article about the reunion features in the French magazine Telerama.

July 13: The Mirror carries a report that Barings Bank criminal Nick Leeson is to shoot a video with the Sex Pistols. This proves unfounded.

July 14: Unterfrankenhalle, Frankfurt.

July 15: Release of the "Pretty Vacant live" single. The 7" vinyl pressing (VUS 113) has "Buddies" (Bodies) live at Finsbury Park on the b-side and the CD single (VUSCD 113) also includes "No Fun" (live at Finsbury Park) and "Problems" (Chris Spedding produced demo).

July 27: "This Is Crap: Never Mind The Bollocks / Spunk" and "Filthy Lucre Live" are reviewed in the Melody Maker.

July 29: Release of the "Filthy Lucre Live" CD (CDVUS116) on Virgin records.

July 31: Red Rocks, Denver (filmed). The band is interviewed and Bodies and Seventeen are filmed for a broadcast on Much Music TV programme. This programme includes a brief clip of Bodies filmed elsewhere on the tour.

July (unknown day): A band interview by French TV channel MCM is broadcast in France in order to promote the gig in Paris. The interview took place in Los Angeles in June.

This month's issue of Rock & Folk includes an interview with the band conducted in Los Angeles at the Château Marmont Hotel. The article includes pictures of the band by Shawn Mortensen. One of these pictures is used for the "SIR" bootleg CD cover.

The band is interviewed by a local TV crew. The show is broadcast on the radio and three songs are shown on TV; Bodies, Seventeen, GSTQ.
