NEVER MIND THE BANS NME ADVERT
AND BRUNEL UNIVERSITY GIG REVIEW
17th DECEMBER 1977
from the archive of Dave Smitham
Introduction
With minimal pre-announcement, following the success of the secretive SPOTS and Holland tours - the Sex Pistols embarked on another series of guerrilla gigs across the UK through late December 1977. The day after the tour commenced, a full page NME advertisement - featuring rejection letters and tantalising crosses on a British map (although no locations or dates!), announced the ‘Never Mind the Bans Tour’ in progress. The same advertisement also contains a hint that a larger March 1978 UK tour was considered. A future NME edition printed a not too enthusiastic review of the first (16 December) Brunel University gig. Dave Smitham |
