NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS THE TRIAL
24th NOVEMBER 1977
from the archive of Dave Smitham
Introduction
As the weeks progressed after the release of NMTB, increased anxiety was expressed by society worthies to the display of the word ‘Bollocks’ in record store fronts. The album had already been banned from the principal chain stores, but now the police took it upon themselves to act in the defence of an innocent population, by attempting to prosecute a record store owner who refused to remove a large advertising display. A ridiculous test case was convened in Nottingham on Thursday November 24th - where the good old Anglo Saxon word was successfully defended by John Mortimer QC.
