PRESS CUTTINGS
SCREEN ON THE GREEN 3rd APRIL 1977

from the archive of Dave Smitham

Introduction
Of necessity - with a nationwide ban on Sex Pistols UK appearances still effective in early 1977, only guerilla gigs could slip under City Council surveillance. Promoted by word of mouth, the free April 3rd 1977 Screen on the Green concert was the band’s second British gig since the scuppered Anarchy tour - the first was the closet Notre Dame show for a hand picked audience of 50 filmed for NBC. Still without a recording contract - but £75,000 the richer, this Pistols event featured the newly formed Slits as support - a full month before their exposure to the world on Clash’s White Riot Tour.
