PRESS CUTTINGS
A&M SACKING 16th MARCH 1977
from the archive of Dave Smitham
Introduction
Sex Pistols lasted a week with A&M. Numerous stories circulated as to the reason for their dismissal: that it was the band’s misbehavior after the press conference, or an ‘incident’ with Old Grey Whistle Test announcer Bob Harris in a night club, or even Rick Wakeman and Peter Frampton’s disapproval of sharing the same label … Whatever the real reason, it was up to the Fleet Street dailies to keep us up to date with this information: at the time of the band’s March 16th sacking the music press were still celebrating the band’s signing … and we had to wait a further week before we got the story. |
