PRESS CUTTINGS
NASHVILLE ROOMS "FIGHT NIGHT" 23rd APRIL 1976

from the archive of Dave Smitham

- Page One

Introduction
I’m confident Joe Stevens’ iconic photo of assorted Sex Pistols members piling into a punter at the Nashville Rooms was the band’s first cover story … in Melody Maker, no less! We were also treated to a NME Thrills feature (written by a future Pet Shop Boy) outlining details as the fracas unfolded. Some of the photographer’s snaps either side of the incident hint this was not as glamorous a media moment as hindsight might have us imagine. Malcolm and Vivienne - the aspiring provocateurs, were to take the apparent appreciation for violence from the music press further in future months, terrorizing London’s clubs and consequently gaining greater news exposure for their increasingly notorious boys.
