Anarchy in the Year Zero:
The Sex Pistols, The Clash & The Class of '76

by Clinton Heylin (Route Books) Out 4th June
Anarchy in the Year Zero:Press Release: "To be published on the 40th anniversary of one of the most significant gigs in British popular music history, when the Sex Pistols played the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester. This is an account of a movement that not only changed the face of British music, but had a profound and lasting effect on the course of British culture as a whole.
Anarchy in the Year Zero is the story of the birth of Punk, with a capital P, in the only country where it was a mainstream movement: the UK; told entirely by eye-witnesses (Heylin included) whose words, then and now, have been held up to the light of history's hindsight.
This is also the story of the rebirth of Rock, by a bunch of bands who set out to deconstruct and destroy the form, on the island that largely invented it and reinvented it at least twice in the fifteen years before Punk.
And it is the story of the ex-Catholic, semi-Irish snot-nosed working class Cockney oik who dealt the final fatal blow to England's dreams of empire when he became a Rotten revolutionary.
But most of all it is the story of a handful of British youths who were inspired to raise their voice in song, and allow it to echo round the world.
It is a story that, till now, has only been told piecemeal: of one band blazing a trail gig by gig, convert by convert, to the pre-set agenda - not always adhered to - of a festish shop-owner until, within a single year, the whole island rocked to the sound of ANARCHEEE. "

KEITH LEVENE TO PREMIER HIS DIY FILM “LONDON 1976!”
AT LONDON’S “SCREEN ON THE GREEN” THEATRE

Keith Levene’s London 1976!FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE London, UK.  The massively influential British guitarist, composer, artist, educator and Clash/Public Image, Ltd. founder member Keith Levene will premier his DIY film “Keith Levene’s London 1976!!” at the historic Screen on the Green theater in Islington on August 29, 2016 as part of his “London 1976 Festival.”

This special evening will be a one-off happening celebrating a quintessentially and historically significant time in British history:  The first wave of punk, which emerged from the streets of West London and went global.

The date marks the 40th anniversary of the legendary “Midnight Special” when Levene and the Clash, the Sex Pistols and the Buzzcocks performed a midnight concert at the world-renowned Screen during punk’s “year zero” on August 29, 1976.

Levene’s film is based on his DIY original art/book “I Was a Teen Guitarist for the Clash!” and will feature his original music, artwork, designs and Levene’s personal recollections and memories of being a skateboarding, pinball-playing 17-18 year old guitarist on the scene as punk exploded.

In addition, a discussion and live musical performance is planned as is an interactive gallery display featuring Levene’s new artwork which will also be available on his website at www.teenageguitarist76.com later this month. “Although music was of course central to anything and everything punk, art and design were also integral” Levene explains. “Consequently, a live interactive art gallery involving the audience members is a must.” For further information, contact teenageguitarist76@gmail.com

A benefit evening for Project-0 Wave Makers Marine Conservation took place on 16th December at The Scala, Kings Cross, London.
Glen Matlock was the house bass player. Main acts were Bernard Fowlers All-stars and The Strypes. Ronnie Wood came on for three songs with Glen on bass. Glen sneaked in the riff for 'Pretty Vacant' when they played 'Stay With Me'.
