Former Rich Kids members Glen Matlock and Midge Ure have come together to organise a celebratory benefit concert in London. This very special evening will see the coming together of all four original Rich Kids: guitarist Steve New, drummer Rusty Egan, bassist Glen Matlock and singer Midge Ure.
Guests confirmed so far are The Illuminations (featuring Clive Langer, Steve Allen and Ian Broudie), TV Smith (from the Adverts), Viv Albertine (from The Slits), Carbon Silicon (featuring Mick Jones and Tony James), Patti Palladin and Gary Kemp (from Spandau Ballet).

John Lydon interview in today's Telegraph by Andrew Perry. "He (John) explains that he was unable to reconvene the 'Metal Box'-era line-up, because “Wobble and Levene hate each other — it's not possible to put them together in the same room — and how could you have one without the other? I worked so little with them, anyway. To go back with songs, you have to at the same time go forward. PiL is a shapeshifter, it adapts.” He adds that he intends to perform material from right across his post-Pistols career, including 'Open Up', his 1993 hit with Leftfield. As darkness descends on Putney, Lydon lurches through to the band room, and I watch, open-mouthed, as he and the three-piece ensemble vamp up 'Albatross', 'Memories' and 'Poptones', all from 'Metal Box', each striking a miraculous blend of spontaneity, spikiness and 'flow' — the open, free spirited yin to the brutal yang of the Sex Pistols. For any aficionado of punk's more forward-thinking legacy, these shows are not to be missed."

Greil Marcus praises Sex Pistols: "The young John Lydon was so brilliant, author Greil Marcus argued Thursday night during a presentation at Columbia University, that the iconic Sex Pistols singer, now 53, should be forgiven for appearing in British butter commercials. "I think John Lydon did so much to make the world a richer, more abstract, more contingent place - and did more to raise the stakes of what people see as art - that I don't care what he does to make a buck," Marcus said. "I think he deserves every penny." " spinnermusic.co.uk

John Lydon's return to Public Image Limited is certainly family affair. "The first UK tour of Public Image Limited for 17 years will conclude with an emotional family Christmas for frontman and founder John Lydon. Lydon, 53, will return to his home borough of Islington, north London, to support his brother, Jimmy, in a battle against throat cancer after performing the first gigs with PiL since the band - the successor to the Sex Pistols - was put on hold in 1992. The controversial performer revealed his family angst after flying into London this week from his home in Los Angeles to begin rehearsals with former bandmates Lu Edmonds and Bruce Smith and new recruit Scott Firth. Never mind the Sex Pistols, here's the story of
Sheffield's Limit…
Whilst it wasn't uncommon for local councils to order venues to cancel gigs by the Sex Pistols, one northern venue was forced to go further – much further. The chair of Sheffield licensing magistrates refused to let the city's legendary Limit club open at all unless it agreed never to book the band in its lifetime. The story is told in ‘Take It To The Limit' – the new book chronicling the life of the West Street venue that ran from 1978 to 1991 by author/journalist Neil Anderson. Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock said: “I look at it as a bit of a back-handed compliment really. He was probably a very wise man. People often think they know best but they invariably don't.” |

EXCLUSIVE GLEN MATLOCK INTERVIEW COMING SOON |
God Save The Sex Pistols has just conducted a brand new interview with Glen Matlock. Full transcript coming soon.....
In the meantime, with Glen's acoustic tour starting tomorrow night in Manchester, here's a taster of what's in store... |
Phil: What will we expect to hear on your tour?
Glen: Something old, something new, something borrowed and something a little bit bluesy. I don't always know myself what I'm going to do when I play. I've got quite a good stock of songs. The only yardstick is that some songs work on an acoustic guitar and some don't. I do the ones that do, and the ones that don't, I don't! Simple really.
I'm having a laugh and I just like playing. The good thing about doing acoustic shows is that at least your ears don't ring at the end of the night! But it doesn't mean it has to be deathly quiet either. One of the best shows I've seen in recent years was during the Pistols Tour when we were in San Francisco. We had the night off and I went to see Jonathan Richman. He was playing a classical acoustic guitar and he had a drummer with him. He came on stage and said “Hey Mr Sound Guy, is that volume still set at that crazy low volume I set it at the sound check?” He said “Yes, of course.” Jonathan said “I don't believe you. I'm going to come and turn it down.” And he did! And you know what, the show was fantastic. It's the intimacy of it all.
Phil: It's the first time you've been out of the capital on tour for a while.
Glen: In a concerted tour-like fashion, yes. And, I've got a new Gibson guitar I'm going to be playing.
