As with all modern era PiL releases, the album is splendidly packaged with John's own artwork and individual photo inner sleeves for each record. It is available in various formats and packages: CD, double LP on black or orange vinyl, and a triple orange vinyl set.
It's been a fair while since the last contemporary PiL live album. With new dummer Mark Roberts gaining plaudits for his interpretation of the PiL catalogue, re-energising and refreshing their live set, this release has come at the right time.
Recorded at a number of venues throughout the This is Not the Last Tour summer 2025, and presented as one uninterrupted show, it documents PiL in the now.
To successfully make the transition from live experience to recorded audio, the mixing and indeed the recording process has to be spot on. Self produced by PiL and with Andy Shillito overseeing the mix, it's sonically perfect. You can hear all the component parts busy at work creating the overall sound and vibe that is PiL. Listen through headphones for the full immersive experience.
Lu's guitar, Scott's bass and keyboards, along with the unifying drumming, have the uncanny ability of making three musicians sound like half a dozen. It's a vehicle made for John Lydon to drive forward with that unerring ability to navigate the twists and turns of a live show with dangerous aplomb. He doesn't step off the gas during his live shows or in life. The older he becomes, the harder he seems to work on stage and off.
So what are the highlights? I always love Warrior live, so I'd have to go for that, but pick any and you'd be right. The nine minute closing medley of Annalisa / Attack / Chant also takes some beating. When I heard this live I thought it would make a great 12". Well, if you purchase the triple vinyl edition you get four versions of this mini-epic spanning both sides of the final disc. Perfect. Take your pick from Wroclaw, Belfast, Cork, or Trutnov. The triple vinyl set also includes Deeper Water and Open Up which were cut from the CD due to space (the double vinyl includes Open Up).
PiL still pull in packed out crowds so there will be plenty for who this will prove the perfect memento of 2025. Perhaps of even more significance, such is the quality of the recording and the performances selected, it works as a refreshed anthology which will satisfy both old and new fans.
