NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, HERE'S THE SEX PISTOLS
RHINO HIGH FIDELITY 2025

RHINO HIGH FIDELITY 2025

Rhino Records USA recently re-released Never Mind The Bollocks as part of their High-Fidelity Series. A manufactured collector's edition of 5000 numbered copies only available directly from Rhino Records. Mastered by renowned engineer Kevin Gray.

For many, including myself, the bench mark vinyl copy is the UK first edition (11 tracks, different running order, blank rear sleeve). It's noticeably sharper and more dynamic than any other pressing I've heard. The subsequent UK pressings are excellent, but the original is a stand out. "Panzer division in full force" as Chris Thomas and Bill Price (producer and engineer) described it.

This new American Rhino release is very polished, balanced, and dare I say, nicer. So much so it may have lost its raw edge. Comparing one against the other, it definitely seems to sound quieter, or more refined, although not life devastatingly different. Personally, I was expecting the opposite, so it came as a bit of a surprise.

The packaging is luxurious and high quality. Heavy weight cardboard, laminated gatefold sleeve (numbered), with a Japanese style obi strip. There's also an insert, containing photos of John, Paul, and Steve in the studio along with a picture of the original Warner Brothers master tape, and a brief account by Chris Thomas. What's clear here is this has been put together with the upmost care and respect to the artist.

In a nutshell, if you are a collector you will want this. Even if you're not, it's worthy of your attention. Obviously, the limited nature of the release will guarantee it's sought after, and Kevin Gray's remastering making it perhaps even more so.

Footnote: If you're not a collector and are simply looking for a vinyl copy, I'd recommend finding a beat up well worn original UK pressing. Then sit back, turn the volume up to maximum, and enjoy it for how it was originally intended to be heard. In all its original and magnificent glory! If you are unable to do so, then grab a copy of Rhino's High Fidelity release, it's the best sounding edition since 1977.
